This "Newman & Guardia" "Sibyl" camera is in "as found" condition.
"Newman & Guardia" were formed in 1891. Renown as makers of fine camera and other scientific equipment for a demanding clientele, they cease trading in 1956.
There are no holes or splits to the black leather bellows, however, there is fading to the corners.
The camera is fitted with a "Carl Zeiss Jena, No. 87664,Tessar,1:6,3, F=13.6 mm, D R P, 142294" lens, there are no chips or cracks to the glass elements, although they would benefit from a clean.
The shutter does not appear to be fully working.
The camera opens and closes well.
It slides in an out smoothly, the lever to the front extends the camera as it should.
The view finder moves in to place and the glass elements are intact with no chips or cracks.
The alloy body is covered in Moroccan leather, this has retained a fair depth of colour, however, there are scuffs, marks and scratches you would expect from a used item of this age.
The black painted elements have retained much of their original finish.
All of the white lettering and numbers have retained a fair colour and are legible.
The serial number appears to be "219"
The back of the camera is fitted with a dark slide.
The aperture at the back measures 4 inches by 3 inches.
