Artists Paint Box.

This "J. Newman's" watercolour box and its' paint cakes are in "as found" condition.
The box is made of mahogany with a drawer to the front and a lift out tray.
The wood itself has taken on a lovely depth of colour and patina over the years, however, it does have scuffs, scratches and marks you would expect from the years of use.
The drawer slides in and smoothly and it still has its' brass securing pin.
The lift out tray to the interior has its' original paint divisions for twelve paint cakes and a compartments for brushes, mixing bowl, etc.
There is no key. ​
It has twelve paint cakes, they all appear to be by "Newman's" and some have been well used and are not complete.
The tray has applied paper strips with the paint names, this are still legible for the most part.
The glass mixing bowl has no cracks or chips.
I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.
Inside the lid the embossed leather insert with the makers name and images of castellated house and trees still has a good definition and colour.
The inside of the box has the inevitable staining, paint marks.
The hinges are well attached and hold the lid open.
The box measures 24 cm (9 1/2 inches) long, 19 cm (7 1/2 inches) wide. It is 8 cm (3 inches) deep.
