Corinthian ProStars

Club Gold Window Boxes

In February 2002 Corinthian launched the 2002 version of the Corinthian Collectors Club, with the membership packages containing exclusive product which was not available in any retail store, and it was not possible to purchase the World Greats from Corinthian direct either, they were only available as part of the membership package.

As was the case with the membership packages in the previous 2 years, there were 3 different levels of membership which were Silver, Gold and Platinum, with different figures available in each level of membership.

Set G

There are 4 Club Gold World Greats figures which were included in the Gold membership and made up Set G, which saw the first release of Czech international Pavel Nedved. This sculpt of Nedved would be used in ProStars series 20 and the Reseller Specials.

Patrick Kluivert is in Holland home kit, the figure being the same sculpt as we saw in ProStars series 4, with Zvonimir Boban being in Croatia home kit, initially released for AC Milan in the Headliners Superstars range and also for AC Milan in Prostars series 5.

Completing the set is Welsh forward Mark Hughes, here in the Wales home kit, this is the same sculpt as we saw for Chelsea in the FAPL Collection and also in the World Club Legends series.

Set H

There are 4 Club Gold World Greats figures which were included in the Gold membership and made up Set H and the line up was spectacular.

The spotlight was always going to be on one player in this range and is up there in terms of quality with any figure Corinthian ever made, that is of course Colombian Carlos Valderrama.

The sculpt was an exact likeness of the eccentric player, complete of course with his world famous afro hair style. For a long time this was the only version of Valderrama, that was until Corinthian released him in the ProStars Classics series, however both versions can be hard to find and are of course very popular.

Collectors got the first opportunity to add Romanian icon Gheorge Hagi to their collection, another fine sculpt in a bright kit, he would later be released twice more, for Barcelona in the World Club Legends series and in Brescia kit as part of the Reseller Specials series.

Frank Rijkaard was released in Holland home kit, having first appeared in AC Milan home kit in the World Club Legends series, with Yordan Letchkov in Bulgaria home kit completing the set, with his only other Corinthian release being for Marseille in the Headliners range.

Set I

There are 4 Club Gold World Greats figures which were included in the Platinum membership and made up Set I and features a player we would never get again.

The player who was released for the first and only time is Jean Tigana in France home kit, perhaps more known to some collectors for his time as manager of Fulham. The Tigana has never proved vastly popular with collectors as with others who were only released once, it has always been seen as one for the completist collector and i put his rarity and value in the same sort of bracket as the Klinsmann or Zoff.

The star of the set has always been Zico for Brazil, a true footballing icon and this was the first release of the player and he would never again be released in Brazil kit as a ProStars, though he would be released in the Yellow of Brazil as a MicrStars figure, and for Udinese as a ProStars in the Reseller Specials series.

This was the first release of Italian striker of Paolo Rossi, painted of course in Italy home kit and a figure which has certainly appreciated in value over time. All other releases of Rossi would use the same sculpt but they all pale in terms of value and rarity when compared to this Club Gold World Greats figure.

John Greig in Scotland home kit makes up the set and is by far the least desirable from the set, the figure was first available for Rangers in the Legends of the Sixties team pack and also as part of the World Club Legends series.

All 4 were released in a Club Gold World Greats window box, on a Gold base and coming with collector card.

They are unopened in excellent structural condition, but they have signs of discolouration as can be seen in photos
