NICE EXAMPLES OF 19TH CENTURY JAPANESE LACQUER WORK -

Original Japanese black polished lacquer covers - originally from a 19th century photograph album - with fine decoration, including inlays.

Two large panels of black polished lacquer, comprising the original upper and lower boards from a Japanese photograph album. The panels with moirĂ© paper pastedowns on verso of each board. Produced circa 1890s. Decoration in a variety of colours, including gilt, blue, orange and brown. The upper panel shows a man pulling a lady in a rickshaw, with a walled house and Mount Fuji in the distance. The head , hands and feet comprised on inlays in slight relief. Size: each board - 39cm x 32cm.

Good condition. Minor chips to edges of and corners of boards. A few minor abrasions and marks to the surface of the lacquer. A few minor scattered scratches. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, and view gallery images closely.

Two attractive highly polished Japanese black lacquer panels, beautifully decorated, which were originally the boards to a large 19th century photograph album. Could be framed individually.
