Adorable 19th century oil on panel, French school, signed, lower right and on the reverse - hand written is 'Le Printemps' - The Spring. In what we believe to be the original gilded , heavy and beautifully detailed 1880-1890 Barbizon frame.

This painting so captures the peace and tranquility of the time- Pink blossom on the trees in the orchard of the small country cottage, the light breeze and early warm sun is waking the dormant plants and trees and they are displaying their beauty.

It is signed on the lower right - but the signature is difficult to decipher -Sauzey or Sourey ?

The frame is exceptionally superb and in exceptionally fine condition - the detail, shape and depth - - it is very heavy too for the size of the painting. (1.5 kilos )

Condition - Good antique condition -painting untouched exactly as found - No missing paint or damage - Frame solid wood & gesso plaster -No loss to the mouldings on the front.or visible restoration. The frame does show slight shrinkage at the mitre joints- but this is not unacceptable & commensurate with the age. The gilding is original and has not been repainted. The back is absolutely true with remnants of the original backing paper -

Size Frame 12.5" X 10.5" or 32 cms x 27cms - Depth 2.25"/6cms

Oil on panel - 5.75" x 3.75” - 15 cms x 9.75cms
