FRANKLYN ROGERS

MID 20TH C

PORTRAITS, FIGURE AND ANIMAL STUDIES.

Rogers was a British artist working for the Redfern Galleries.    He was a graduate of the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London.

Clearly he was an exceptional artist as a large folio of his work which we obtained in a London auction demonstrates.

His drawing is very confident and fluid and he has retained the basic draughtsmanship competance which later modern artists seem to have lost.   But he has not been afraid to experiment with different forms, especially in his nude studies.

We understand that he is a relation of Peter Rogers, the producer of the Carry On films.

We are offering just a small selection of his work to sound out the interest.   Should they prove to be popular we will offer more in due course.

All are in sound condition, though some are on very thin wartime sketch paper which is subject to rumpling.     The larger items will be posted rolled in cylinder containers, to avoid damage.    None are mounted mainly because of their size.

This fine ink portrait of an unknown gentleman dates from circa 1940.

Size 11" x 8" (28cm x 20cm)
