Founded in 1983 by the Machado brothers (Luiz and João). It all began with the name chosen by João Machado, who was very interested in medieval history in those days. By the beggining of 1986 the band was formed by Silvio Mazzei, Roberto Moura, Luiz e Joao Machado.It was with that line-up that Inquisicão started to perform in some of the most popular venues of the "carioca" heavy metal scene in those days, such as Circo Voador and Caverna 2. Gathering a larger number of fans gig after gig, the group decided to record their second demo tape, with the songs "Cruz de Ferro" and "Exorcista". Another replacement took place by the end of 1986. Roberto Moura left the group and Armando Pereira became Inquisicao's new man behind the drums. By then, Heavily influenced by Classic Bands as Rainbow, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and adding some "new" influences as Grim Reaper, Satan, Mercyful Fate, Etc this period marked the band's most successful phase when the third demo tape, with 5 tracks was recorded. The 1987 demo tape had sold more than 2.000 copies in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and became the group's most popular recorded work since its foundation. In 2001, an unknown producer made a vinyl out of that cassete tape and helped spreading Inquisicão's music throughout Brasil and some other countries of the globe. Now the band is back in 2007 and prepares its first full length album ever, blending some old and new material with lyrics in english. The album is due in December/2007 under Marquee Records. For this new crusade Inquisição reassembled three members of the band's most sucessful period: Silvio Mazzei (vocals), Luiz Machado (guitar) and Armando Pereira (drums). Completing the team there are Sidney Sohn Keyboards (Ex- Thoten, Tribuzy) and Itho Cruz (Ex-Thoten) on bass.
