This is a new, limited edition silkscreen print by Native First Nations Heiltsuk artist, Ben Houstie. From 1989 and an edition of 225, this classic and elegant design is a wonderful example of Ben's work.

The print depicts a Raven, and it measures 15" high x 10 1/2" wide. The Raven is known as the transformer and the creator. Raven placed the sun and moon in the sky so the world would have light and also put the trees on land and fish in water.  This magical creature opened the clamshell to release man.  He is known for his knowledge.

Ben's works include: original paintings, limited edition prints, carved cedar rattles and paddles. He has worked with Cheryl Hall, Robert Hall, David Gladstone and Beau Dick, and in 1988 worked under Bill Reid painting several drums of Bill's designs and 20 paddles for the Canadian Museum of Civilzation, Ottawa. He sold his first painting in 1977. Ben also painted several reconstructed artworks in 2000 for the Museum of Anthropology's 'The Transforming Image' exhibition, at the University of British Columbia.
