Central Park North è un grande album di jazz band registrato nel 1969 dalla Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra e pubblicato su etichetta Solid State Records. L'album è stato nominato nel 1969 per un Grammy award al "Best Instrumental Jazz Performance nella categoria - Large Group..." ( - Grande gruppo ) .

Central Park North is a 1969 big band jazz album recorded by the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and released on the Solid State Records label. The album was nominated for a 1969 Grammy award in the "Best Instrumental Jazz Performance - Large Group..." category.

 

Non si pensa automaticamente alle big band quando ricordiamo il jazz della fine degli anni '60 , anche se grandi gruppi ( big bands ) come la Thad Jones -Mel Lewis Orchestra avevano continuato a fare stimolanti registrazioni.
Central Park North , registrato e pubblicato nel 1969 , testimonia che una band può essere  grande e allo stesso tempo progressiva . Qui il “Flügelhornist” Jones e il percussionista Lewis sono uniti da un grande cast di attori , tra cui il tenore Joe Farrell , il trombonista Jimmy Knepper , e il pianista Roland Hanna . La musica pone un guanto di sfida , corre dal funky soul - jazz al tradizionale lavoro più dolce, e a volte all'interno dello stesso pezzo .

One doesn't automatically think of big bands when remembering late-'60s jazz, though big bands like the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra continued to make stimulating recordings. Central Park North, recorded and released in 1969, testifies that one could be a big band and progressive at the same time. Flügelhornist Jones and percussionist Lewis are joined by a large cast of players, including tenor Joe Farrell, trombonist Jimmy Knepper, and pianist Roland Hanna. The music runs the gauntlet from funky soul-jazz to more gentle traditional work, sometimes within the same piece.
