FLORRIE F

1908-1914

It was extremely popular in the early 19thc for people to fill small albums with drawings or poems by friends, as reminders of their friendship.

This album is of particularly good quality as the owner, Florence L... had a circle of accomplished artist friends, some of whom were American.

We do not know the owners full name but the album is inscribed on the inside front cover "To Florrie with love and best wishes from Alex"     Inside there is a poem dedicated to Florence.   There is also  a finely drawn pendant by J Mahoney, with the initials F.L. signed and dated 1910, clearly also dedicated to her.

All the drawings are either drawn straight onto the album pages or pasted into the album and will be sold with the original page.   Their condition is very fine, though the album pages themselves are sometimes slightly foxed.

This  watercolour of Sweet Peas is by A.C.F and is dated 1910. It has canted corners.
