Siberian Iris have a place in every garden, one of the easiest Iris to grow with its architectural strap like elegant foliage topped in spring with the most beautiful flowers in a range of colours and forms, followed by shiny green seed pods that turn brown in winter providing interest in the winter garden.

Growing well in full sun or partial shade in a range of garden soils there is a lot to like!

We collect open pollinated seed from some of our rarer cultivars, this is a mix of seed from our best Siberian Iris as pictured.
Iris seeds need a period of cold (stratification) treatment to break the natural seed dormancy and allow germination to take place.

This can be achieved in either of the following methods.

Sow the seeds in Autumn as soon after harvest as possible, use good quality seed compost, cover the seed lightly and place in a cold greenhouse or cold frame and leave overwinter to germinate naturally in spring (usually May). Prick off when large enough to handle and grow on.

Alternatively, cold stratify the seeds from January onwards by soaking for 24 hours then placing in some dampened vermiculite, perlite or compost in a sealed container (plastic bag or takeaway container) and placing in salad drawer of fridge for 6-8 weeks prior to sowing as above.

Prick off seedlings once large enough to handle, grow on and plant out in August or continue to pot on until spring.  Iris seedlings usually begin flowering in their second year of growth.
