IMPORTANT PROOF OF ORIGIN OF POSTER – Fakes, copies, and reprints are a common concern for buyers and collectors of posters. The more valuable a poster, the more likely it will NOT be an original. I am including photos in this listing to show that I went directly, in person, to New Line Cinema in New York City on December 12th of 2001 and ordered Fellowship of the Ring merchandise, which included double sided posters. The order totaled 11 large packages weighing 32 pounds and was shipped by Terri Conners (Publicist) from New Line Cinema to my home on December 16th, 2001. You will not find anyone selling these ORIGINAL double sided posters that can provide detailed proof of direct purchase. According to Terri at New Line, only 1000 of these were produced. Since then, over 20,000 reprints have been made which are much less valuable and can be purchased for $25-$50. This poster is on the list of the top 30 collectible films in the last 25 years (see article below).

In 2001, I paid $500 to the New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund to obtain one ticket to attend the World Premier of the Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring at the Ziegfeld Theater on Dec 13th, 2001 (See pictures). During my stay at the Wellington Hotel, which was a short walk away from the corporate offices of New Line Cinema at 888 7^th Ave New York City, NY, I was able to meet with the merchandise manager (See picture of entry badge to New Line Cinema dated 12/12/01). The purpose of my visit to New Line Cinema was to order Fellowship of the Ring merchandise including double sided posters, styles A, B, C and D. I ordered as many as were available. The total weight of the order was 32 pounds, (see picture of 12/16/01 FedEx waybill showing the order that Terri Conners sent to my home in Arizona).

RARE ORIGINAL DOUBLE SIDED THEATER POSTER

“Style C” – FELLOWSHIP ARRIVING AT ARGONATH STATUES ON THE RIVER ANDUIN.

This is just prior to the breaking of the Fellowship, the death of Boromir, and the end of The Fellowship of the Ring.

This type of poster, one that is printed on both sides, called a Double Sided or D/S Poster, was produced specifically for display in the movie theater light-boxes, lit from behind the poster. They were not produced to be sold to the general public. The reason for printing the back of the poster in reverse was so that when the poster was placed in the theater display panel (light-box), the light from the rear of the poster would result in a more brilliant image as seen from the front. The printing process has changed over the years, and most posters produced today have a faded back printing, not the strong colors of this poster.

I was told by New Line Cinema that the total production run for this “Style C” double sided posters was only 1500. I was also told that the production run for style B was only 500, style A was 1000, and style D was 2500. Once the Fellowship of the Ring was a financial success, printing numbers for The Two Towers and The Return of the King were increased to over 20,000 and marketed to the general public. It is important to note again that Style A, B, C, and D of the Fellowship of the Rings D/S posters have been reprinted and reproduced in large quantities. Since the release of the film in 2001, over 20,000 reproductions, reprints, and copies have been created, and are not nearly as valuable as the original posters. This Fellowship of the Ring poster is one of the top 30 film posters sought by collectors of all films of the last 25 years and is an excellent investment. It is critical that buyers of this poster receive some documentation showing proof that it was purchased directly form New Line Cinema. I have no doubt that I am the only seller that can and does provide this proof.

Condition – This poster is new, mint, rolled and still in original plastic sleeve as purchased. It has been boxed and stored since purchased from New Line Cinema in 2001.
