This is a very interesting piece of early Victorian vernacular. The barrel has been on the farm for which it was made since early Victorian times. It is very large and I think it is made in oak. It has been used for over a century in the butchering of meat on the farm! It was renovated about twenty years ago and is now used in a purely decorative manner.

The barrel has two carrying handles. The floor has been renovated and it has had replacement steel banding around the sides.

This is a beautiful looking thing. Its size makes it particularly stunning and it would be an interesting furnishing piece in a large space like a barn conversion. It could be used as a log store or even dog bed or bath. (The joins would have to be stopped to make it watertight.)

The barrel is 54 inches wide and 37 inches deep and 16 inches high at the handles
