Mooring Line Set Up:

  1. Bow Line
  2. Spring Bow Line
  3. Spring Stern Line
  4. Stern Line

Golden Rules For Mooring Lines:

  1. Spring Lines should have no slack.
  2. A spring Line should not be more than 45 degrees from horizontal
  3. Any Mooring Line with greater that 45 degrees from horizontal must not come taught when the boat/yacht rolls or bobs up and down on the water
  4. If possible don't have any lines that are closer to perpendicular than 45 degrees
  5. All Mooring Lines need to be protected from sharp or rough edges
  6. It is always important to make sure your boat is properly secured to the dock/pontoon when left unattended.  Failure to do so will almost always result in costly damage to your boat and often to other property as well.

Tying Your Mooring Lines:

Cleat Hitch for a Halyard Tying

Pass your rope around the bottom horn of the cleat and on around over the top.  Continue down across the middle and then up across again.  Twist a loop in the rope and hook it on the cleat as a half hitch.

Cleat Hitch For a Dock Line Tying

When tying the line always go around the far horn of the cleat not the near horn and then back across the middle.  You then continue making several more figure 8 turns around each horn.
