Amber is a resin of ancient conifers, which has hardened and mineralised in the process of evolution of the planets vegetation cover. Amber’s age is 40 to 50 million years.

The resin oozed out of cracks and wounds of trees in order to heal them and was gradually trickling down to the soil. Oxidation of the future solar stone continued in the soil of amber forests for millions of years. So, in this way amber deposits gradually accumulated. In the fertile soil the resin with time solidified and was covered with a thick crust of dark brown colour. Running water gradually washed the fossilized resin away from the forest soil and brought it to the mouths of ancient rivers, which then carried it to the side of the Baltic Sea. There the resin was deposited, and everything else has been made by time.

The coast of the Baltic Sea is considered to be the main centre for the mineral extraction (the local deposits of it account for 90% of world reserves). There were times when a storm washed up more than two tons of stones on the shore. The amber, which lies in the territory of present day Poland, is considered to be the most valuable.
