E. Howard Burger

"E. Howard Burger was born in Athens, Tennessee, in 1915. After his father passed away when he was 11, he started his art career by lettering store windows. After obtaining his degree from George Washington University, he began work in Washington, D.C., as a commercial artist and engineer. After a successful 32 year career, he retired at age 58 to begin work as an artist. He started a gallery in Cleveland, Tennessee, which he later passed on to his son. Burger passed away in Whispering Pines, North Carolina, in 1995, where he painted until his death. Much of Burger's work consists of nostalgic pieces depicting farms which have seen better days. Other works were influenced by family life and golf. Burger also had pieces commissioned for posters for the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. "
