You are bidding on the 85th cover of a set of 100 first day covers containing stamps issued in the Marshall Islands commemorating the 50th anniversaries of the 100 most significant events starting with the invasion of Poland and ending up with the end of World War II on VJ day, September 2, 1945.

This 85th cover depicts the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne, Germany on December 16, 1944. German infantry advanced the outnumbered American troops creating a 50-mile bulge in the Allied lines. The 101st Airborne Division held Bastogne until General George Patton's tanks arrived. The cover bears 2 cancellations from Majuro on December 16, 1994. Red cancellations ae scarce. The cover bears four 50 cent “Battle of the Bulge 1944” stamps. The cover is signed by Sailass Andrike, Director of Post for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The chop is the signature of the creator of the cover who is also a member of the American Philatelic Society. This is a unique cover to own and one of a limited edition.
