DOCTOR SYNTAX IN SEARCH OF THE TURESQUE

ROWLANDSON

PUBLISHED ACKERMANS

1 APR 1813

The Doctor Sytax series of amusing episodes in the life of the fictional Doctor Syntax were published by Ackermans in book form and illustrated by the caricaturist, humorist and artist Thomas Rowlandson in the early 1800s.     It was hugely popular and the illustrations are collected to this day.     We already have a number on our site and they have sold steadily.

This edition is one of the earliest, published 1 April 1813, and has original hand colouring.      We are offering the illustrations singly and have checked that there is no duplication with the existing ones.        They are the standard size.

All are mounted within acid free board and are in fine condition.    The size of the borders vary depending which way round they were stitched into the album.

This example is Plate 5 and shows Dr. Syntax disputing his landlady's bill.

 Size 4 1/2" x 7 1/2" (11cm x 18cm)
