About the Author

Mark A. Keith says, in his own words, "I ain't been everywhere, but I've been around." Born in the central Illinois farm town of Gibson City, Keith craved adventure and couldn't wait to see something besides a million acres of corn. At age 18, he joined the U.S. Army and served with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment on the Czech border. He's traveled America building microwave towers, cowboyed in the feedlots of Kansas, wrangled dudes in Oklahoma, been ranch manager for world class horse trainers and for 27 years kept the bills paid shoeing horses. His love of western fiction was inspired by his grandmother, who told him stories when he was a boy of historical events, such as the hanging of Tom Horn. "There's no place I'd rather be than on a good horse", says Keith, "unless it's sitting by the fire on a rainy day with a good book."
