What is African black soap base?

African black soap is a traditional soap that originates from Western Africa, and has been used for centuries. Traditionally made from local ingredients, african black soap is famed for its gentle, cleansing abilities.

What is it made of?

Well, we are proud to say that our African black melt and pour soap base is one of the most chemical free and natural soap bases that we have seen on the market. It contains no SLS, SLES, MPG, Parabens or Sulfates! This soap base harnesses the moisturising power of vegetable glycerine, olive oil, shea butter and coconut oil. Full ingredients at the end of description.

What does it look like?

As you can probably guess, the African black melt and pour soap base is a very dark colour. Not quite black, but more a deep honey brown. You can whiten this soap base using a pigment like titanium dioxide, or add another colour, but the brown colour will remain dominant.  It has a scent characteristic of African black soap, which can be altered by using other fragrances but it will be present in the background

How should I use it?

Simply pop the soap base out of the packaging and cut into pieces. You can melt this soap base in a microwave or a double boiler, the main thing is to heat without boiling the soap base. After the soap is fully melted, add any fragrance or colourant that you have chosen. Then pour your soap base into a mould and wait for it to set. When the soap has hardened, remove it from the mould and wrap it in cling film to prevent moisture loss.
