HOW TO GROW
LONDON PLANE TREES
Step 1
Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours,
then drain and mix with dry sand to
separate and make sowing easier.
Use a good quality potting or seedling mix
and pat nice and flat into pot or seedling tray.
London Plane seeds MUST have light
and humidity to germinate, so seeds must
be sown on top of soil.
Water generously and then cover with
plastic wrap, glass or keep in a greenhouse
where humidity is high. Remember, these
seeds need light to germinate so keep
in a bright position out of direct sunlight.
Seeds should germinate
after 2-3 weeks.
Step 2
Once sprouted, open plastic wrap a little or
expose an area under the glass to allow air
circulation and prepare seedlings for
more realistic conditions.
In a pot, leave until at least 30cm
(or 2-3 years old) before transplanting
to their permanent position.
Step 4
It is best to transplant to final position
in spring or autumn. Once established, will
survive cold and not require much watering.
Plane Trees can
take between
7-10 years to
fully mature.
