The starter motor's fitted to these HARLEY's are prone to failure and are very expensive to replace. 

Fortunately the starter is very reliable apart from the copper contacts in the solenoid which wear away, these can be changed very easily in about 10 minutes once starter is removed from the vehicle. 

The typical symptoms would be a clicking sound and intermittent starting.
