Joanne Hobbs Hand Made Goose Feather Christmas Tree and Caroler - 14 inches

Only the goose feathers from the tails and wings of a goose can produce a feather to work into a Christmas tree.  The rest of the goose only produces down feathers.

Joanne Hobbs of Bardstown KY is a self-taught artist who has been crafting German reproduction Goose Feather Christmas trees, ornaments and feather fences for over 20 years.  Her trees are found in galleries and historic homes around the country

The process of making these trees is involved.  The quill feathers, which she buys commercially are stripped of their feathers, washed, dried, trimmed, dyed and then wound onto the tree limbs and trunk.  A 19 inch tree takes about a day to make and used the wing and tail feathers of six geese, which the birds annually shed.

Made in 2015, this one was priced by the artist at $75.  She has signed a card attached to the tree, and another card explains the difficult process of making these trees, along with a sample feather.

The tree next to this ceramic Caroler stands on a solid wood base at 14 inches tall.  The base is also signed on the bottom by the artist.  It weighs right at 1 lb and will make a wonderful addition to your Christmas.
