Fully Available Lanosterol Rather than Complexed

In common with other organic compounds, lanosterol is not soluble in water without the need for a complexing agent (for instance, one of many different types of cyclodextrin). Having lanosterol form a water soluble complex is one thing, but fully releasing it from the complex is quite another. If the lanosterol remains bound to the complex, the activity of the free molecule is essentially zero. If the conditions for releasing the lanosterol are too harsh, damage to the molecule can result leading to poor yield and/or inactivity. Under these circumstances - and without chemical analysis - it's impossible to say exactly what the concentration of available lanosterol really is. Dissolving lanosterol in a natural oil gets around these problems entirely. The relatively large amount of cyclodextrin variant required to solubilize the lanosterol can also be a source of problems.

Since lanosterol is soluble in natural oils including this olive oil, no inclusion complex chemicals, buffering or other agents are required or have been added. Provided in a semi-viscous and stable oil, the lanosterol is fully available in its free and natural form among a mixture of naturally occurring saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. The lanosterol is fully dissolved, and the olive oil retains its naturally clear yellow color. The resultant product is a true solution, and not a particulate suspension or emulsion.


Naturally Long Shelf-Life

Olive oil has a very long shelf-life - typically one to two years, even when stored in an opened bottle. Although it is not normally necessary to refrigerate the dropper-bottle, it is recommended to replace the screw cap after use, and to store the dropper-bottle in a cool place.


Established and Innovative Uses of Lanosterol

Lanosterol is gentle enough that it has established uses in the cosmetics industry as an emollient or skin and hair conditioning agent, as well as a role in chemical synthesis.

Published research in the Journal Nature in July 2015 first introduced the use of lanosterol as a promising treatment for cataracts in dogs and certain other animals.  Rejecting use of any type of complexed-lanosterol molecule, the researchers have perfected a sophisticated technique involving lanosterol-loaded nano-particles introduced to the site of delivery.  This licensed-technology lanosterol-loaded nano-particle product is not yet commercially available.
