Pick your size and colour from the drop down box - Listing is for one pair of palm guards

How to choose the correct size for you: Measure from wrist to the base of the middle finger.

It is very important that you choose the right size, if your size falls between the sizes,         order the smaller size. The guards can stretch.

The finger holes may appear too small, however they can be stretched. Do not be tempted to cut them. To increase the size of the hole a rolled up piece of sandpaper can be used.

How to break in your Palm Guards

The leather is already supple however, you will need to break parts of your guards to make the leather more supple, do this by:

a.     Roll the leather backwards and forwards in the area where you want to make it more supple.

b.     Do some very basic bar work, to assist the stretching and assist your grip. Only start to use the guards for more difficult routines when the guards are completely broken in.

It is recommended that you check the guards frequently for signs of overstretching. If they are too long do not wear them. Discard when leather shows signs of deterioration. Never lend out your guards, they mould to your hands.

Some more advice which may be helpful:

Always follow the size chart, parents, do not be persuaded by young gymnasts to inaccurately measure. This is because many gymnasts may initially find palm guards uncomfortable around the wrist and will want to slide them down on the wrist toward the elbow to alleviate this discomfort. What they don’t realize is that if the guards slide down, they are defeating the purpose of a guard. Guards are designed to transfer the gymnast’s body weight from his/her hand to the wrist. When an athlete slides the palm guard down on the wrist and then swings on the bars the palm guard will slide back to the intersection of the hand and wrist every time because that is where they were designed to be worn. If an athlete has severe chafing or sores around the wrist he/she will try to move the palm guard up the wrist. This method will not correct the problem because the guard will slide back to the correct position when in use. Over time this creates friction on the wrist with undesirable results. Wearing palm guards in the proper location should solve this problem.

Keep your wristbands clean and in good condition and to discard worn or thin wristbands. Clean wristbands cause less friction and less blistering and will help prevent infection if blistering does occur.

When breaking in your palm guards, wrap the leather around a rounded piece of wood (dowel) and roll the guard around it. Follow this procedure a few times. You will notice an immediate difference in the softening of the leather. Perform this step several times on each palm guard. Never pinch the leather sharply together. This could be detrimental to the leather. It is then okay to start using your palm guards in slow under swings until the guards feel comfortable enough for more advanced stunts and full giant swings. The results should be surprising.

Regarding the finger holes, the rolling process above should soften them to a comfortable fit. But if they are still too small or tight for your fingers, follow this procedure. Use a small piece of sandpaper. Wrap it around a pencil and slowly and carefully sand around the finger holes. This will open the hole consistently around the opening without tears. Never stretch the opening by hooking it on something and pulling and never cut the holes with a knife. This can weaken or damage the leather beyond repair or safe use.

Store your guards separately in your gym bag. A brush can be used to brush any excess chalk build up on the front of the guards. Use a guard brush in moderation and be careful not to damage the leather.
