THE SOURCE OF THE NILE by Richard Burton was published by the Folio Society (London, England) in 1993.

Founded in 1947 by Charles Ede, the Folio Society has been publishing unique, beautiful books ever since. In a world of declining publishing standards, were books are cheaply printed and bound using low grade materials, the Folio Society sets much higher standards it its design and production. A wide range of traditional materials--buckram, cotton, leather, and silk--are employed for these bindings. The designs are printed in ink or blocked. All the books usually have high-quality book illustrations, many newly commissioned, and employ a wide range of techniques, including wood-engravings, etchings, auto-lithography and linocut's. The artists use pencil or ink, paints in watercolor, oil, gauche or some other medium. There are also reproductions from illustrated manuscripts as well as photographs.

Richard Burton was a explorer, scholar, poet, supreme linguist, popular hero, prolific author and mystic. It is almost impossible for us today to grasp the intensity of interest with which the Victorian readers followed the steps of their fellow Englishman who struck bravely into the unknown, nor what exceptional power his books exerted. The Empire was nearing its height, yet much of the world beyond its boundaries was still unmapped, unseen by white men and full of mystery. THE SOURCE OF THE NILE is one of Burton's best and one of the best explorer's journals ever written, enjoy.
