These are common fault when the electric roof fails to work as the top cover doesn't release. 

The reason is due to Alfa Romeo using a moulded plastic gear inside the motor for the top cover, made from a very low quality material which is why they don't last long

Material Type: Teflon Polytetrafluoroethylene PTFE    

(not an ordinary Plastic material)

Don't get confused, Teflon is not any cheap type of Plastic. 
The same material is used in Aeroplanes due to its high chemically inert, weather-able, excellent electrical insulation, high temperature resistance, Light weight, a low coefficient of friction and non-adhesive properties.
