VINTAGE MODERNIST KOREAN POLISHED BRASS HORSE BOOKENDS, with LACQUERED ROSEWOOD & BRASS FILAMENT EDGE INLAY

These simply amazing period Modernist Korean brass and heavily lacquered pair of brass and rosewood bookends are in absolutely wonderful overall vintage condition. They still have their original aged brass patina and have not been stripped with chemical brass cleaner. The realized figuration of the brass stallions, with open mouths, as if in battle or involved with the struggle of physical toil, are artistically realized and with real attention to naturalistic detail. Their figuration isn't abbreviated or summarized, as often seen in more amateurish, less important, inexpensive pieces of brass. Instead, they were only lightly wiped down with oil and dried, removing dust and debris but preserving their wonderful, complex aged metallic patina, only time can render. They are without any significant abrasions, dents or dings. The lacquered rosewood wooden frames are in splendid condition. The rosewood is coated with clear, gloss, highly reflective lacquer, as often the case with Asian or Italian antiques, when rosewood is chosen to be a top exotic hardwood used in the construction of a piece. It has no significant scratches, flea-bites or loss to any of its pristine, sharp, crisp edges or surfaces. There is also a brass filament 'string' inlay detail along the edge of the rosewood, which makes this pair of bookends of high quality.
