Whereas the watermark on a standard Verne specimen note consists of a balloon and a octopus (an obvious reference to Verne's novels), these specimens were printed on a different brand of paper with the portrait of Ludwig Van Beethoven as a watermark instead, visible at right and positioned upside down. This peculiarity makes it a particularly rare and sought after variety.
