On January 1, 2002, the euro became the first common currency of the original 12 European Monetary Union Nations: Austria, Belgium, Finland, Franc, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. Since its introduction, the Euro has become one of the world's most widely accepted currencies. In addition to the 12 original nations, the Euro has been adopted by several other countries across Europe.
This collection honors the 10th Anniversary of the Euro. It includes one Euro 5 cent coin from each of the original 12 nations. One side of each 5 cent coin shares a common design of a globe and 12 stars representing the European Union flag. The other side of each coin is a unique national design that symbolizes the respective nation's culture and heritage.
