This is the massive hand forged Nodachi (Odachi) sword, or "field sword". The sword was carried by foot soldiers as a counter measure against cavalry attacks. The massive blade would be wielded by two men to cut the legs out from under charging attacks. However, by a skilled and powerful warrior the sword could be used by a single man and had the potential to cut both horse and man apart in a single stroke. During times of peace the sword would be carried by high ranking Samurai as a sign of status. Due to its length the sword would be carried on the Samurai's back. Although, this sword was slow, in the correct hands the sword would become unstoppable. This is a reproduction of the massive Nodachi. The sword has been hand forged with all authentic fittings. This mighty sword is spectacular to behold and would grace any collection. The Sword includes: a silk sword bag.

The sword is hand forged and made of 9260 Spring Steel. The blade has been tempered and water quenched. It has a sharp edge that is capable of cutting 3 bamboos in a strike. The 9260 is a silicon alloy which has a significantly increased fatigue resistance compared to standard carbon steel. It is most commonly seen in application on fencing foils where it needs to withstand a high degree of bend and still be able to return to center.

The balance of the blade is perfect and the sword is completely functional. It can be used for drills, practice or test cutting.

The tsuka handle is hardwood with real white ray skin samekawa and wrapped in authentic black leather for further comfort and duribility. It is secured by 2 mekugi bamboo pins.

The Kissaki is medium with a well defined Yokote. The sword is full tang sharpened. The tsuba is black musashi iron, and the saya is hardwood gloss black.
