This sermon is on the union between Jesus Christ and the saints, preached in Boston. 10 leaves, 20 manuscript pages. Approximately 6000 words in Samuel Mather's hand. Measures at 6.25" x 7.75." Provenance from the collection of the late Richard Durnin, professor of American History, Mather family expert and avid collector.

!Reverend Doctor Samuel Mather visited Europe when a young man, but we have no knowledge of his travels in that continent. He probably visited his uncle, the Reverend Samuel Mather, who was a preacher in Witney, in Oxfordshire, England. At the age of thirteen he entered Harvard College; graduated 1723, at age 17. He probably studied theology under the direction of his father, Reverend Doctor Cotton Mather, and it is said he soon obtained a good reputation. In 1732 he was chosen colleague with Reverend Mr. Gee of the Second Church in Boston (North Church), in which his father was minister.
