Great new Galahad album with a 43 minute epic song

With “Seas of Change“ Galahad have released their first studio album with completely new song material since 2012 (“Beyond the Realms of Euphoria“). The ambitious new work contains a complex and varied 43 minute epic song with 12 parts which flow into each other without a break. This has many changes in tempo and mood, from soft, sensitive song parts to powerful, bombastic sound passages. According to statements of the band the music contains more elements of the “older“ Galahad sound with incorporation of heavier guitar and more modern keyboard sounds. Thematically the album deals with the state of the British politics and society and their uncertain future.

Stuart Nicholson again delivers brilliant and expressive vocals. Dean Baker presents very strong, widely varied keyboard work (synthesizer, mellotron, organ, piano) and plays the essential role in the excellent composition and orchestration of the album. Another very positive effect also has been the re-entry of Lee Abraham as new guitarist into the band. He has released several high quality solo albums, was Galahad’s former bass player und replaces the retired Roy Keyworth. He expands and enriches the sound palette of the band on the electric and acoustic  guitar. Spencer Luckman and Tim Ashton complete the line-up with their accomplished work on drums and bass.

Besides the title track the album contains two very strong extended and highly melodic alternative versions of “Dust“ and “Up in Smoke“ with gorgeous vocals and instrumentation.

Großartiges neues Album von Galahad mit einem 43-minütigen epischen Song

Mit “Seas of Change“ ist das erste Studioalbum von Galahad mit vollständig neuem Songmaterial seit 2012 (“Empires Never Last“) erschienen. Das ambitionierte neue Werk enthält einen komplexen und abwechslungsreichen 43-minütigen epischen Song mit 12 Teilen, die ohne Pause ineinanderfliessen. Dieser hat viele Tempo- und Stimmungswechsel, von sanften, sensitiven Songteilen bis zu kraftvollen, bombastischen Soundpassagen. Laut Angaben der Band enthält die Musik mehr Elemente des “älteren“ Galahad-Sounds mit Einbeziehung härterer Gitarren-  und modernerer Keyboardsounds. Thematisch setzt sich das Werk kritisch mit dem Zustand der britischen Politik und Gesellschaft und deren ungewisser Zukunft auseinander.

Stuart Nicholson brilliert wieder mit seiner tollen, ausdrucksstarken Stimme. Dean Baker leistet äusserst starke, breitgefächerte Keyboardarbeit (Synthesizer, Mellotron, Orgel, Piano) und hat den Hauptanteil an der hervorragenden Komposition und Orchestration des Albums. Sehr positiv hat sich auch die Wiederaufnahme von Lee Abraham als neuem Gitarristen in die Band erwiesen. Er hat bereits mehrere hochwertige Soloalben veröffentlicht, war früher Bassist bei Galahad und ersetzt den ausgeschiedenen Roy Keyworth. Er erweitert und bereichert  die Soundpalette der Band an der elektrischen und akustischen Gitarre. Komplettiert wird die Band durch die versierte Schlagzeug- und Bassarbeit von Spencer Luckman und Tim Ashton.

Neben dem Titelsong enthält das Album zwei sehr starke erweiterte und hochmelodische Alternativversionen von “Dust“ und “Up in Smoke“ mit tollem Gesang und exzellenter Instrumentierung.

Das sehr empfehlenswerte Album wurde wieder in hervorragender Soundqualität von Karl Groom in den Thin Ice Studios gemixt und gemastert. Das gesamte Album gibt es auf galahad1.bandcamp.com und einen Sampler auf YouTube zu hören.
