For your consideration is an interesting cased set of Victorian Era, Silver Spoons by Widdowson & Veale, established in 1835.
The Widdowson & Veale Company were makers and retailers of high end items such as presentation swords, military badges/medals along with limited types of tableware and some fabulous jewelry.
The spoons (six in total) are beautifully decorated as seen in pics with the bowls having a light gold wash tone. The spoons have a variety of unknown hallmarks. Years ago, we were told by one source that the spoon bowls are silver plated while the handles are more sterling grade. We have never tested the spoons and are selling them “As Is” with no purity guarantees.
The presentation case has a satin and velvet interior and is marked “WIDDOWSON & VEALE, GOLDSMITHS & JEWELLERS, TO THE COURT OF SPAIN, 73 STRAND LONDON”.
The spoons are not small measuring approx. 6 7/8" long and weigh approx 55. grams each, the case measures approx. 8 1/4" by 11 3/4".
The set is in excellent antique condition having light age related wear and tarnish and are monogram free. The case is in good condition, the inside shows light age related wear, the exterior of case is covered with a leather type material which shows age related wear as in scuffs and peeling around the corners along with the common “old musky smell” associated with these types of aged items. The hinges and latch are in generally good condition and do work properly.
