DESCRIPTION: Offered to you is this original 19th century Imperial Russia drafting planimeter set with original velvet padded case with bronze clasps. Case marked G.GERLACH, Warsaw, which was within the borders of the Russian Empire. On the case there is the Russian imperial symbol – two headed eagle. This planimeter was initially used by the Imperial Drafting Service in St.Petersburg, which was the capital of the Russian Empire at the time. The paper table inside the case is written in Russian with pre-1918 alphabet. This tool is used to determine the surface area of a given territory by applying it to a map and taking into account the map scale. This is a complete set with complete manufacturer markings and serial numbers. Manufacturer is G.GORADI, a Zurich based Swiss manufacturer of precision instruments. The design was patented in Germany and it bears the DRP (Deutsches Reich Patent) mark. Very Rare and highly collectable item that would proudly take its place in any museum or private collection.
