here's a testimonial
from a Comet owner
As the title says this is a Phoenix Models "Comet" .46 pattern model. I flew this for 2 years on a Thunder Tiger Pro .46 motor. It has hung in my ceiling for about 4 years. Coming up to a recent local electric fly-in I wanted something that was more than the little planes I had ready to go. I had a Hyperion 3025/8 motor and thought it should fly this reasonably well on 4S2P. I doubted it would be enough to give solid pattern performance but I thought "What the hell, it will at least get off the ground." Let's just say I underestimated the performance from this motor.
Specs:
Wingspan 1420mm Motor Hyperion 3025/8 987kV Battery 4S2P Kokam 2000mAh (4000 mAh total) ESC CC45 with BEC disabled RX DAD2000 dual conversion 8ch with 4 cell KAN1050 pack AUW 2870g (270g of that is lead bolted to the firewall for CG purposes) Prop APC-E 10x5 RPM 12250rpm Amps 42.8A Watts 580W
This thing flies brilliantly! Plenty of power even in the high-vertical-component pattern manouevers. And I get about 10mins of flight.
It will get a powerplant upgrade. I have that much lead bolted to the firewall I might as well put a larger motor on and have some of that weight doing something useful. I'm thinking Himark 5020 510kV motor on 6S2P 3850mAh (7700mAh total) with a 11x7 APC-e prop. A mate is running a similar setup in a 40 size scale Zero and it hammers!
