Ames Anciennes

Fine antique french anonymous Mirecourt violin made circa 1920.

Today at no reserve auction we sell this fine antique french violin made in Mirecourt circa 1920. The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows thin and very regular grain lines. The back is made of a single piece of nicely flamed maple, the curl ascending from the left to the right. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood, and original to the instrument. The varnish is of an orange-brown color on a clear ground, and is nicely worn at places, showing that the instrument has been well played. The violin is masterly made, with a great care in all details : the f holes are beautifully cut, the purfling is regularly inlaid, the head is carefully carved and shows the remains of a black chamfer, as often in the french school of this time.

The violin is in a good restored condition, with a few recent repairs on the top including a soundpost crack that has been well patched inside.

The violin has been entirely revised and set-up and is ready to play.

Body length : 363 mm.

Upper bouts : 169 mm.

Middle bouts :  112 mm.

Lower bouts :  210 mm.

The violin has a splendid concert voice, warm and mature with a great power and projection, and is easy to play and responsive. The perfect french violin that will allow you the most complete repertory.

The violin comes with a new case. Insured shipping to USA $90 and to Europe $50. Worldwide shipping.
