LEICA  Photograph Casper Michaeli  for Oskar Barnack Edition 1879-2004

Thank you so much for watching my item# 29687.

  •     The Leica special edition Oskar Barnack 1879-2004 Jubilee Edition Set marks the 125th birthday of Oskar Barnack (1879-1936), the designer of the first 35mm Leica camera. In homage to the inventor of the 35mm system, the set comprises the true-to-detail new edition of a historic camera type, the Leica 0 series 'Prototype 2', which Oskar Barnack developed as a second camera after the 'Ur Leica' and tested in practice. The Leica 0 series 'Prototype 2' is in full working order and demands intensive study of all photographic parameters and concentration on each step of exposure. Barnack himself used this small masterpiece of craftmanship to make outstanding photographs that still set photo-aesthetic standards today." -- Leica Camera AG

    • About the picture:  Edition Oskar Barnack 1879-2004: Casper Michaeli
      • In  In the venerable optical factory, which had been successfully developing world-class microscopes at Leitz, Wetzlar since 1849, a new idea caused a real stir:
Oskar Barnack wanted to move away from the traditional, heavy plate cameras then used for most photography and search for a completely new form of photographic technology. As early as 1905, he had the idea of reducing the negative format and enlarging the photographs at a later stage. He succeeded in turning this momentous idea into reality 10 years later in his capacity as development manager. From a device to test exposures for cinema film, he developed the Ur-Leica, arguably the first truly successful small-format camera in the world
      • The trip provided a photographic opportunity that has left us a large stock of negatives from that earliest Leica, including a number of pictures of Leitz and of Barnack himself.
    • This is to certify that both the included print as well as  the negative used for it are originals, and that it is a photograph take by Oskar  Barnack himseif.
    • This print has been produce in Leica's own laboratory using the LEICA V35  enlarger. The paper used was Berger VCB Style baryta which received an additional final treatment to provide optimum protection against harmful  environmental influences.
    • The prints are professionally mounted on archive board and stored in a polypropylrene  archchive envelope.
    • The manufacuring and storage process was completely in line with museum standards.
    • The prints are a strictly limited edition: only 100 copies have been produced of each 10 negatives.
