Thousands of this type of ventilated Box car were in service on many railroads. 
They were designed to carry fruits and vegetables during the spring, summer and fall. 
During the winter they were used for loads such as lumber and other building materials 
as well general cargo of all types. 
This type of car was slowly phased out in the 1920’s for cars with steel under frames.
