Yashica Mat-EM

The EM serial numbers are associated with the Yashica Mat EM model, with a range:  EM 4023xxx (1964, Feb - 4/02) to EM 7070xxx (1967, July - 7/07)

S/N:  EM 5080313 - 1965, August, 0313 for that month.

The white on silver narrow “Y” hood logo was unique to the Yashica Mat-EM.  The front nameplate is missing, so it appears that someone removed a non-functional or damaged nameplate/meter.

When I got it, the shutter release button wouldn't fire.  Removal of the hood and lens assembly showed that the release mechanism was bent.  After repair, it fires normally.  There is still a bit of a glitch with the shutter release/winding train; you may have to press the shutter fully again in order to advance the film.  This may be due to nothing more than the camera not being used in years (or decades).  This will not cause a double-exposure, as the shutter is charged only after winding.

Apart from the shutter issue, everything else is in good condition.  Viewing & Taking lenses are clean and clear, the ground glass is intact, and the self-timer works (set in "X" mode to use timer).  I've resewn the case together, so it should hold up for a few more years of field use!

A nice camera for the photographer just starting out with TLRs, or when conditions might result in damage - don't risk your Rolleiflex 2.8E Planar when this Yashica Mat-EM will get the shot!
