Greetings! For your consideration this time is a particularly interesting, absolutely genuine Second World War period RCAF - Royal Canadian Air Force service & pay book, campaign medal and ephemera, in this respect, attributed to R52678 Corporal Russell James Slingerland, an aeromechanic serving with No. 415 Squadron RCAF (Handley Page Halifax IIIs) and subsequently, No. 426 Squadron RCAF (Handley Page Halifax IIIs & VIIs), two historically well-documented heavy bomber units commended for their remarkable achievements throughout the conflict. The service and pay book, a 16-page issue referenced as R.C.A.F. A. 47, issued via No. 1 “Y” Depot (Moncton, New Brunswick), documents orderly facts regarding Slingerland throughout the 1940 - 1944 timeframe. The campaign medal, a 1939 - 1945 Star and certainly not an ordinary one, considering the reverse side has been professionally engraved in stylized script, “love to Agnes from James”, converting the award into a most original “sweetheart” ornament. Strangely, Slingerland’s spouse is referenced as “Muriel”, therefore who’s Agnes? An appreciation note from the Defence Minister accompanies the medal. Equally included: A chocolate - sugar confectionery ration card (RAF Form 2732), dated 1945, issued at RAF Station Snaith, when Slingerland passed through the No. 17 Air Crew Holding Unit and a troopship berthing card with two consecutively numbered tickets, presumably for his assigned mess table and mattress hammock. Book has seen obvious service, exhibiting reasonable wear. Medal is truly pristine. Union Jack not included! Additional questions always gladly answered!
