Evergreen Holly Holm oak (QUERCUS ILEX)
Quercus ilex ,known as holm oak or evergreen oak, is a broadleaved tree or shrub, which can grow up to 25m. It is characterised by coriaceous dark green leaves with a woolly lower side, and small acorns. It is native to the centralwestern Mediterranean.
The wood is hard and tough, and has been used since ancient times for general construction purposes as pillars, tools, wagons, vessels and wine casks. It is also used as firewood and in charcoal manufacture.
