The kookaburra is fondly known for its distinctive call which sounds similar to human laughter, and can be heard echoing through the trees at dawn and dusk.
2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the original Australian Kookaburra coin design which was first released in 1990 and designed by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG.
The coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The coin's reverse depicts an adult kookaburra sitting on a tree stump surrounded by eucalyptus leaves and a fern. The design includes the inscription THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA, The Perth Mint’s special ‘P25’ mintmark, and the year-dates 1990 – 2015.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2015 year-date, and the monetary denomination.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 2,500 of the Australian Kookaburra 2015 1oz Silver Proof Coin in special 2015 World Money Fair Coin Show packaging.
The coin is housed in a classic Perth Mint presentation case within a beautifully illustrated World Money Fair shipper, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
