This is a chance to own a large, original, antique print dating to 1894. It features an image of Patsey Kerrigan, born in Glasgow, Scotland who in 1894 had fought many bouts undefeated as the protege of John L. Sullivan. There are some biographical/fight details to the rear. It has been trimmed to the edges so that it is ready for posting/mounting/framing and would make a great decorative piece or gift for anyone interested in the history of Boxing, posed male athletes, sporting fashion, etc.

It has been removed from a scarce book titled 'The Portrait Gallery of Pugilists of England, America, Australia' and subtitled 'from James J. Corbett running back to Tom Sayers with biographical sketches and authentic records of their victories and defeats embracing the men of note of all nations connected with the pugilistic arena by Billy Edwards - Ex-Champion Light Weight' and published by 'London and Philadelphia Pugilistic Publishing Co.'

The Author's introduction to the book reads 'The author believes that in presenting this volume to the public, he is filling a long-felt want, particularly in the great sporting world. Of recent years the interest taken in the noble art of self-defense has been almost universal. The cultivation, in our colleges and other institutions of learning of athletic exercises, and the great interest taken by all classes of people in physical culture, would seem to indicate that this is the golden era of muscular development, and in the establishment of a perfect manhood and womanhood. 

The Pugilistic Portrait Gallery has been prepared in the most careful manner, under my personal supervision. Every fact has been verified by exhaustive research and careful compilation of official data. Every important event in the fistic arena, from the first ring encounter down to the great battles of the present day, both in this country and abroad, is given a place. The biographical matter is historically correct, and the accompanying illustrations are taken from authentic photographs or sketches made from life......'

Please note that this item is approximately 120 years old and has been used. Overall it is in good condition but there may be minor marks / spotting / creases / tears consistent with age and usage and the edges have been trimmed.
