DESCRIPTION:
Offered for sale is this amazing, original WWII black and white photograph of an American camouflaged cargo ship or freighter, anchored in the Pacific port of call of Saipan, South Pacific in 1944 during World War II. The entire ship is decked out in geometric camouflage, no doubt to hide anchored ships in harbors, away from the penetrating and invasive periscopes of Japanese and German submarines lurking beneath the water's edge, looking to take out as many vulnerable supply ships for allied forces, as they possibly could. There looks to be the slightest of episodes of moisture (faint oval semi-opaque pool) in the upper right corner of the photo. It's questionable if this is actually on the photograph itself or was a spot on the original negative. Nevertheless, it exists and would be considered minor, since it's barely noticeable. There are also a few very faint episodes of tanning or spotting that also occur on the photo's surface. Both of these condition issues with the photograph are only viewable upon close inspection and both would be considered minor and don't detract from viewing the photo or significantly depreciate the photograph's overall value. A wonderful, original black & white glossy, reflective photograph snapped by an enlisted service member, 1st class Truelove in 1944, of this large camouflaged freighter or cargo ship, caught at anchor in Saipan, the South Pacific during WWII. The photograph has no margins around the image and doesn't look to have been cut down or altered. There's an inscription on the verso written in blue ink. The American flag is clearly visible at the rear of the ship. Outstanding.
