ANTIQUE EARLY 20TH CENTURY WOODEN SHOESHINE-BOY POLISHING CADDY/WORK FOOTSTOOL, W/ART DECO 'WATERFALL' SIDEWALLS & FORM, ON RAISED FEET, W/SLANTED FOOTREST
(Circa 1920-1935)

This vintage early 20th century wooden shoeshine-boy footstool/polishing caddy, features Art Deco, curved veneer wooden body design, with cut-out feet and arched footrest. The interior compartment was fashioned to hold ox hair shoe polishing brushes, shoe polish paste in tins, rags and other period shoe-shining accessories. This was really all an urban shoeshine boy or for that matter girl, needed to set up shop at a railroad station, bus terminal, taxi stand or on a street corner anywhere. This shoeshine kit allowed them to be self-reliant and self-sustaining, in a less than benevolent world and one ravaged by economic decline and the Great Depression. This authentic, untouched, unmolested and 100% original, early 20th century shoeshine polishing caddy or footstool, is complete and hasn't been bastardized or altered from its original state. It was not found with the brushes, polish tins and rags, that would have surely been kept inside in the interior, built-in compartment. It boasts a varnished pine surface, routered pine compound edging and sidewalls, steamed in a round, Art Deco inspired form. Time warp again. Terrific.
