Evans Orchestral Timpani heads are designed with moderate pre-tension to ensure proper seating and tuning. The thin 7.5 mil film provides an immediate pitch with a clear sustain.

The steel insert ring provides a strong, very thin bearing edge for the head to rest upon, increasing tuning consistency and making the seating process easier to deal with. This ring is most effective at boosting sound quality, but the head will be significantly raised above the counterhoop.

The steel ring on this Evans head has been powder-coated to protect it from the elements - it won't rust when taken outdoors.
