TULU RUG:
Tulu rugs are from Konya in Middle Anatolia. They were not produced commercially but solely for domestic use. What was astonishing about the Tulu rugs was first of all their texture, then their austere simplicity, and finally their affinity with modern aesthetic values.
They do not always spread them on the floor. They keep them in the storerooms known as kusurgu, and take one or two out as required, or to use as sleeping mats when they go to the alpine pastures for the summer. In their houses they sometimes spread them on the floor, and sometimes hang them on the wall, for insulation.
They lack traditional carpet patterns and have almost no dyed colours. They rely on the natural tones of the wool, with the occasional addition of usually blue or red. The pile is long.
The originality and beauty of the Tulus lies in their long pile. The long, flattened pile gives them a primitive and coarse, yet modern appearance.
