Kasimir Malevich (1878-1935) was an extremely influential and important Russian painter and designer. Malevich, together with Piet Mondrian, the Dutch Neo-Plasticist painter (1872-1944), were true pioneers of geometric abstract art. Malevich was born near Kiev and trained at The Kiev School of Art and Moscow Academy of Fine Arts. In 1913 he began to create abstract geometric patterns in a style he called Suprematism . His work with 3-dimensional models was termed Constructivism. Unfortunately, he died in poverty and oblivion and only subsequently was recognized for his contributions to fine art.
