Mr. Pedro Jorge Amorsolo, was the son of the late UP professor Pablo Cueto Amorsolo, the younger brother of National Artist Fernando ‘Nanding’ Amorsolo. He was also the nephew of expert painter Fabian De La Rosa. He was tutored by his father until his late teens. When his father passed away at an early age, he then frequently visits the house of his uncle Nanding. His uncle was so helpful by giving him important pointers on his painting when he saw the eagerness and sincerity to learn.

From 1954 to 1956, he was the assistant painter of artist Serafin Serna at his gallery in Mabini, Ermita Manila. Sometime in 1955, Don Luis Araneta went to the gallery and inquired who can create portrait paintings of Non-Christian Tribes of the Philippines with Men and Women in their respective costumes.

Mr. Serna aptly told Don Luis that Pedro Amorsolo was the best portrait artist in their group during that time. Don Luis immediately went to his house and then brought him to his residence at Forbes Park, Makati. They talked about the various details and concepts of the artworks. Pedro ended up producing approximately a hundred or more pairs for Don Luis of the said series.

He was later commissioned by Don Luis elder brother, Don Antonio Araneta, to paint the portrait of his son and daughter’s wedding, including their wedding anniversary.

Later on when the posh Rustans Makati opened up a new gallery named Bleau, he was personally requested by Ms. Baby Trinidad to showcase some of his paintings paving to countless exhibits. Afterwards, a certain Ms. Maybelle was appointed as the new head of the said gallery. He was sought again to exhibit more of his paintings and even invited his cousins, Cesar and Adrian Amorsolo, for a joint exhibit in October 1985.

When the former First Lady Imelda Marcos visited the gallery, she saw and immediately purchased a Pedro Amorsolo painting on display. After a few more weeks, she came back again and told Ms. Maybelle that she wanted to buy more of his paintings. So he brought more finished and even recently completed pieces as requested. Mrs. Marcos ended up buying all and more paintings afterwards totalling thirty (30) or fourty (40) of his artwork in her possession.

Pedro Amorsolo was given a plaque of appreciation by the management of Bleau Gallery for giving them prestige and well known clients as well. He produced portraits, landscapes and still lifes in oil or pastel to all of his valued and satisfied clients.

He passed away in May 18, 2004 at the age of 77. His surviving family were his four sons and two daughters.
